I photographed Chris & Rebecca’s scaled back backyard wedding in September . Most wedding plans in 2021 were upended because of Covid. What used to be a 100 – 250 guest venue weddings were reduced to 10 – 75 backyard weddings. Thankfully, I have had my experience with small intimate ones in the past. And like most Ann Arbor wedding photographers, I love to capture them.
I corresponded with Rebecca about the timing of her day a week prior. My day started at her maid of honor’s house. All the brides maids met in this house to get ready. She hired a hair stylist and a makeup artist. Most of her girls have already gone through the two specialist by . However, I got there just in time when she was with them. Again, most Ann Arbor Wedding photographers love to capture candid getting photos.
I had three things to accomplish during my time at the first venue. First, photograph her dress, shoes and accessories (done!). Second, candidly capture her time with the artist and stylist (check!). Lastly, capture the expression of her bridesmaids when they first see her with her dress on (finished!).
With all three goals achieved, I then drove to the second assigned venue. Her family’s barn (not designed for wedding) sat on their 20-acre farm. It sprawled at the foot of a small hill. The well decorated arch sat between the barn and the hill. The leaves have not turned yet but the view was perfect for their wedding. I started by photographing the intricate Fall-themed decorations. Afterward, I worked on the groom and groomsmen’s traditional portraits.
