Megan and Casey celebrated their summer wedding at the picturesque Waldenwoods Banquet Center in Hartland, MI. The serene lakeside venue was the perfect backdrop for their special day. As one of the Ann Arbor wedding photographers, I was thrilled to capture every candid and heartfelt moment.
Meeting Megan and Casey
I arrived at Waldenwoods Banquet Center an hour early to meet Megan and Casey. They had hired me without a prior meeting, so I was excited to finally connect with them. Megan was upstairs with her bridesmaids, putting on makeup and getting ready for the big day.
As I began photographing Megan, I tried a mix of natural and flash shots to capture her beauty and excitement. But Casey was nowhere in sight. It wasn’t until later that I found him setting up a projector for a slideshow. They had planned to share a visual story of their journey leading up to the wedding—a unique and touching idea.
Getting to Know Casey
After finishing with the projector, Casey walked with me to the lodge next door where the groomsmen were preparing. He told me he wasn’t a fan of posed photos. “That’s why we hired you,” he said, “because you like candid shots like we do.”
Hearing those words made my day even better. Megan and Casey were laid-back and open to any suggestions I had. Their relaxed nature made working with them a breeze. Though both were reserved and quiet, they trusted me to bring out their personalities through candid photography.
A Wedding Full of Fun and Surprises
The ceremony by the lake was heartfelt and elegant. Megan and Casey’s love shone through every moment. Afterward, the reception turned into an unforgettable celebration. While Megan and Casey remained calm and collected, their bridal party brought the energy.
By the end of the night, one groomsman had ripped the sleeve off his shirt and tied his tie around his head. The lively antics of their friends added a fun and lighthearted touch to the day. As an Ann Arbor wedding photographer, moments like these make documenting weddings such a joy.
